Backpacking Trip Ratings

Easy - Usually two or three days, with 200 - 400 metres of elevation gain per day or less. Nothing unusual expected on the trail, camping/tenting location provided or easy to find.

Moderate - Two to five days, with 300 - 500 metres of elevation gain per day.  May include short steep sections, or an occasional stream crossing.  May include brief, off-trail sections, and camping may be at backcountry locations (not designated).

Challenging - Three days to two weeks, 300 - 700 meters of elevation gain per day. May have sustained steep sections (not scrambling), off-trail travel, stream crossings, and other challenging terrain within the guidelines of a Hiking Guide. Camping will likely be backcountry style, with no designated campsites.
