Backpacking Basics Workshop

Are you planning on going further than just from your car and back? Do you want a challenge that includes staying overnight in a tent? Learn how to prepare for backpacking in the Rockies - the best way to truly enjoy the scenery at any time of day. Topics include how to select gear, including backpacks, tents, sleeping gear, cooking equipment and clothing, as well as how to select a route, campsite and plan a menu. Discussions regarding lightweight packing, pre-trip planning and locations for backpacking will be encouraged. Wildlife encounters will also be discussed, especially how to minimize the probability of surprise encounters at night! Clients that have taken the Introductory Hiking lecture will find that this discussion has a few similarities, but with many changes and considerations.
