Introductory Day Hiking Series

The introductory day hiking series is designed to inform beginner hikers about the basics, and provide progressively more challenging hikes that give them gentle exposure to hiking in the mountains while still maintaining the sense of fun, adventure and learning.  It includes an introductory lecture, which among many things, gives an overview of what to expect while hiking, and allows hikers to meet others and ask questions. The hikes increase slightly in difficulty, and provide hikers with a wide variety of locations to get a complete hiking experience that will last for a long time.

The hikes in each series are usually the first choice - weather, wildlife or other factors may change the location to nearby similar hikes.  Also, many hikers like to car pool to a location to be more environmentally conscious.  We encourage hikers to find their own rides to and from the hikes, but this may not always be feasible nor environmentally conscious to have 12 people driving themselves nearly 300 - 400 kilometres by themselves! As such, we offer limited spaces with the guide at a cost of $25 per person to cover gas costs, and we encourage hikers to team up with other people joining the hike and reimburse them for their gas as well.

The guide for the hikes will notify all people attending the hike through email aprox. 2 weeks prior to the first hike.  For the subsequent hikes, arrangements to meet, what to bring etc. will be communicated after each hike, in preparation for the next hike in the series, and usually 2 to 3 days before the hike. If any last-minute info needs to be communicated (change of plans, location, weather considerations, etc) the guide will contact each member either through email or phone. Hikes run rain, snow or shine, so be prepared for anything!

NOTE: For the 2013 year a person CANNOT register for an individual day hike instead of the entire hiking series.  There are, however several individual hikes available in the Best of National Parks hiking series that do not require as much time commitment. If for whatever reason there is space listed on the looknbook website two weeks prior to the date of the hike in the Introductory Series, contact us through email and we can make room for those who would like to come for just one of the hikes rather than all three in the series.

Cost (including lecture): $195 per person, per series
